Confidence and appearance boosting cosmetic procedures are more common and popular among men than ever before. Men can benefit from many of the same treatments available at A Center for Dermatology; however, there are undeniable anatomical differences that call for varying techniques and are associated with varied patient goals.

Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Peter Vitulli and his team have treated a diverse array of patients, and they have an understanding of the inherent differences in needs and objectives between men and women. Liposuction for men in Jupiter, FL at Dr. Vitulli’s practice is among those treatments that are tailored to effectively address each man’s unique concerns and characteristics, ultimately achieving a natural looking improvement that exudes youthful health, vigor, and poise.

Get the body you’ve always wanted

Body contouring procedures, including liposuction, are among the fastest-growing cosmetic treatments for men, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. It’s important to turn to specialists such as Dr. Vitulli, who are knowledgeable about sex-specific fat differences such as:
  • Men tend to gain weight and distribute fat differently across the body than women.
  • Whereas women’s bodies may be vulnerable to storing fatty pockets around their hips, thighs, and backsides, the men Dr. Vitulli treats often turn to him for a reduction in the appearance of a potbelly, excess abdominal fat, and love handles, stubborn localized fatty tissue around the flanks.
The fat that accumulates in the abdominal cavity is particularly troublesome, because it can arise as fast as it’s depleted, and it’s linked to a heightened risk of severe health problems, including cardiovascular disease, Type 2 diabetes, colon and rectal cancers, and Alzheimer’s disease.

This localized fat may be reduced with an advanced and minimally invasive approach to liposuction, which is associated with fewer risks than traditional liposuction techniques and surgical fat reduction. Dr. Vitulli is adept at recontouring with tumescent liposuction. Earlier-generation liposuction was performed dry, without fluid, under general anesthesia and using larger incisions to access and remove fat. Tumescent liposuction is the exact opposite of older techniques that gave rise to complications, such as scars.

Dr. Vitulli accesses fat using small surgical instruments that make very tiny incisions. This wet technique involves:
  • Administering a sterile solution that contains a local anesthetic to numb the treatment area for your comfort
  • A solution that includes a mix of saltwater and epinephrine, which works in tandem to cause blood vessels to constrict and fat cells to expand, facilitating easy removal of fat, and helping to minimize bleeding, discomfort, and other post-operative risks
  • Suctioning out the dislodged fat through a small tube or cannula
No general anesthesia is required, and an IV line helps to maintain fluid balance and minimize problems related to shifts in fluid levels.

When fat in the treated area is removed, skin shrinks down and conforms to most men’s leaner contours. Moreover, once fat in the treated area is removed, it’s generally gone for good. Liposuction is, however, not a substitute for weight loss. Ideal candidates should consistently be at or near a healthy weight and should be prepared to maintain that weight and healthy lifestyle after the procedure.

Liposuction for gynecomastia

The Mayo Clinic states that one of every four men aged 50 to 69 have enlarged breast gland tissue, a condition known as gynecomastia. Though gynecomastia can affect men across the age spectrum, it tends to peak in later life due to hormonal changes. Some medications are associated with hormonal swings that result in excess tissue. Still other men simply have a genetic propensity to develop prominent breasts. After addressing potential causes, such as underlying medical problems or medications, liposuction may be recommended. In these cases, excess tissue is removed through small incisions that are made at the sides of the chest, around the areola, or in the armpit.

Dr. Vitulli’s experience with liposuction is such that he can safely and expertly treat small areas, such as a double chin or fleshy neck, and knees.

A confident you awaits

While sex-specific considerations exist, there are limitations to looking at cosmetic procedures as what’s best for men in general and what’s best for women. There is no one person quite like you.

In addition to advanced liposuction techniques, including laser assisted Slim Lipo, Dr. Vitulli boasts a wide range of nonsurgical tightening and lifting procedures. Call 561-427-2000 to schedule a personalized consultation at A Center for Dermatology’s Jupiter office.
