However, with continued advances in laser dermatology, patients of all ethnicities and hair colors can see results with laser hair removal. Additionally, the devices used in our practice are safe and effective, and are cleared by the Food and Drug Administration.
Treatment sessions. Once patients have decided that laser hair removal is right for them, they book their first treatment session. Patients relax in the treatment chair or on the treatment table in our office and a special anesthetic cream is applied to the skin to help numb the area. Then the device is run along the skin to target deep within and treat the follicles in the active growth phase. Patients experience a “snapping” sensation as the laser light works on the area of concern and helps in reducing the hair in the area.
Aftereffects. After each treatment session, patients will notice hair coming out of the follicles on their own. This is a sign that the treatment is working. Not all the hair will be removed during each pass. Instead, there is continued reduction in the amount of hair in the area after each treatment session.
Repeat treatment sessions. The number of treatment sessions for a patient will vary depending on how their hair follicles react and how thick the hair is in the treatment area. However, we recommend patients start with approximately six treatment sessions and then add until they achieve the results they desire.

How long does laser hair removal last?

Because the laser light treats the follicles at the source, the hairs that are eliminated will never grow back. With enough treatment sessions addressing all the hair in the active growth phase in the area, patients will be able to enjoy hair-free skin for the rest of their lives. What other options are available?

Outside of laser hair removal, some patients may want to see an esthetician elsewhere for electrolysis.
